It has been said that something as small as the flutter of a butterfly's wing can ultimately cause a typhoon halfway around the world.
Antitrust was born into the world in early 2003 as a five piece band consisting of Tony (lead guitar/backing vox),
Will (rhythm guitar/lead vox), Rey (lead guitar), J (bass) and Randy (drums) with no name or songs for the band.
Prior to this, all five members had various musical experience either from being in college bands or just practicing
at home and wanting to do something constructive. So the five guys got together but things didn't run smoothly and
after a few months of utter desperation and determination (including coming up with a name "the bubs") Randy decided to leave,
and we saw the introduction of Toby.
Now they were more focused and quickly became pretty tight on six covers.
A few months on they changed the name to "Antitrust" and played there 1st gig to about forty people in early
August 2004.
The rest of 2004 they carried on rehearsing and starting to write their own material.
2005 was a very strange year
for the band, their rehearsal room was no longer available so they had to find a new place to practice, and the
drummer Toby left and Randy the original drummer rejoined. Although they did manage to carry on writing and
rehearsing new material in between these ups and downs. So the rest of 2005 and early 2006, Antitrust carried on
with the original songs and improved week by week.
In April 2006 they invited some special guests to listen to the
new stuff and give honest opinions. All in all the feedback was great and so they played their first gig in there
hometown in August to about 80 people. Comparing it was there first gig it went down well for both the band and
audience and they couldn't wait to play again.
Due to commitments, shortly after the gig Rey and J left the band, the remaining 3 decided to carry on as they had
got this far, so they planned another gig and took on a new bass player Jordie and became a 4 piece. Things went
well and Tony and Will were writing very good material and the next gig went well. Then in December 2006 Randy
left again so Frank stepped in to his shoes immediately and had 2 days to learn 24 songs which he did remarkably
for a gig on December 30th.
2007 was getting better by the minute for Antitrust, they had cracking songs and were playing regular gigs. Then
Jordie decided to leave in July so Si stepped in and suddenly they found their sound. Tony, Will, Si and Frank just
clicked immediately.
So the four now are constantly rehearsing, writing new material and playing gigs and have gone from strength to
strength and will hopefully be in your town soon.
There are a lot of people out there who will never come to anything, but Antitrust have worked hard and have already
come to something. The line up may keep changing but the core value of the band remains the same. Antitrust means no
firm beliefs. From the very start people have doubted the band and have no belief that they could do anything or go
anywhere. Antitrust don't need to respond, as the songs and the fans do the talking for them.
